Simmons & Ungar is one of the oldest law firms on the West Coast practicing exclusively immigration and nationality law. The firm was established in 1955 by Arthur Phelan, a former deputy district director of the Immigration & Naturalization Service in San Francisco. Our members have since then assisted clients in every aspect of the immigration process and before all relevant federal and state agencies as well as the Board of Immigration Appeals, the Federal Courts of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Several landmark cases in the U.S. Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the District Courts have been litigated by our firm. Three former partners are currently serving as Immigration Judges in San Francisco. Simmons & Ungar partners have been named in Super Lawyers magazine as outstanding practitioners and include California State Bar certified specialists in immigration and nationality law.
