Consulates Requiring All NIV Applicants to Complete Biometrics and Confirm DS-160 Contents Under Penalty of Perjury

July 7, 2010

To prevent a visa applicant from repudiating statements on their visa applications after submission, the Department of State has announced that effective immediately all nonimmigrant visa (NIV) applicants will be required to: 1) complete biometrics by having their fingerprints taken, and 2) sign a statement under penalty of perjury confirming the contents of the DS-160 visa application form are accurate preceding the visa interview. At the time of fingerprinting, each applicant will be asked to affirm the following statement:

“By submitting my fingerprint, I am certifying under penalty of perjury that I have read and understood the questions in my visa application and that all statements that appear in my visa application have been made by me and are true and complete to the best of my knowledge and belief.

Furthermore, I certify under penalty of perjury that I will tell the truth during my interview and that all statements made by me during my interview will be complete to the best of my ability.”
