DHS Eliminates NSEERS Special Registration Requirements for Foreign Nationals from Designated Countries

May 11, 2011

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that as of April 28, 2011, foreign nationals from all previously-designated countries are no longer required to comply with the special registration procedures under the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System (NSEERS). Previously, all foreign nationals from the following countries had been required to register with DHS through NSEERS: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Egypt, Eritrea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. These countries have now been deleted from NSEERS compliance. DHS stated that due to the implementation of several new systems that capture entry and exit information on foreign nationals coming to the United States, the NSEERS program is no longer necessary.
