The Department of State has announced that as of September 16, 2010 all immigrant (green card) visa numbers in the family preference category and employment-based categories (other than first-preference) have been exhausted for the 2010 fiscal year. The Immigration Service will continue to process such cases, but will not receive visa numbers from the Department of State until the new fiscal year. The new fiscal year commences October 1, 2010. At that time, numbers will once again become available for all employment and family-based preference categories according to the permissible limits of the 2011 fiscal year.
