Immigration Service to Offer E-Verify Seminars for Federal Contractors

February 22, 2010

On February 19, 2010 the Immigration Service announced that it will be offering free informational seminars on E-Verify to federal contractors and subcontractors on February 23 and 24 at its offices located at 2451 Crystal Drive in Arlington, Virginia. The seminars will last two hours, and will be held at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on both days. Advance registration is required in order to attend. Interested participants should email at E-VerifyOutreach@dhs.gov.

As of September 8, 2009, all federal contractors and subcontractors are required to begin using E-Verify. E-Verify is an electronic system designed to enable employers to confirm that new hires, whether employed on a federal contract or not, are legally authorized to work in the United States.

Under the E-Verify federal contractor rule now in effect, all federal contracts require those awarded government contracts worth $100,000 or more (including subcontractors who will receive over $3,000 in compensation) to use the E-Verify system. Companies awarded a contract by the federal government are required to enroll in E-Verify within 30 days of the contract award date. More information on E-Verify is available at: www.dhs.gov/e-verify.
