June 28, 2011
On June 27, 2011, the Department of State (DOS) launched a new version of the Form DS-160 online Nonimmigrant Visa Application. All nonimmigrant visa applicants are required to complete and submit this new version of the form DS-160. In the new version of the form, the applicant - and no one else - must electronically sign and submit the DS-160 form.
In the opening page of the new version, the Form DS-160 advises applicants to:
"be aware that under U.S. law you must electronically sign and submit your own application unless you qualify for an exception. This means that you (the applicant) must check the 'Sign Application' button, even if someone else helped you fill the application out. If someone else clicks the button instead of you, your application may not be accepted."
In addition to this modification, the new version also includes six new questions relating to possible grounds of inadmissibility.
Please be sure to discuss any questions you may have regarding completion and submission of the Form DS-160 with your attorney.
