As of the end of 2011, the US Consulate in Chennai, India ceased its processing of green card (immigrant visa) applications/cases as part of the government’s effort to streamline immigrant visa processing and provide efficient US visa services throughout India. Immigrant visa applications already pending at Chennai at the end of 2011 will continue to be processed in Chennai through March 30, 2012. After that, they will be transferred to Mumbai. However, Chennai is trying to process/finalize as many applications as possible before that happens.
